Great Plains State Release Paths
Great Plains Correctional Center is an Oklahoma Department of Corrections state prison in Hinton. It holds people under state correctional authority, not the local pretrial population of the Caddo County Jail. A departure is therefore tracked through ODOC's statewide systems. County geography does not make the sheriff the record holder for this prison.
The Caddo County Sheriff's Office under Sheriff Spencer Davis operates the separate local jail in Anadarko. It does not operate Great Plains or issue the prison's discharge record. That record-holder split is essential when a search begins with the county name.
A person may transfer to another ODOC prison, enter parole or another supervised placement, complete the state sentence and discharge, or be delivered to an authority with a detainer. A detainer is a request by another authority to hold or receive the person. Transfer within ODOC is not release to the community. Parole is conditional release while the original sentence remains in force. Final discharge is stronger proof that the identified ODOC term ended.

A posted parole result or projected release date does not prove the person passed through the prison gate. Prerequisites, document processing, gubernatorial action in a violent case, or another hold may remain. Note: Great Plains release confirmation requires the completed ODOC event, not a county-jail record.
Confirm a Great Plains Release
The ODOC offender search is the correct public starting point. After its disclaimer, the form accepts an OK DOC number of up to eight characters, first name, last name, date of birth, alias data, similar-sounding names, and a CAPTCHA. Search by DOC number when known. Otherwise combine name and birth date, then compare the photo, DOC number, conviction county, and case details.
- Confirm that Great Plains was the relevant ODOC facility and that the identity matches the state offender record.
- Read the displayed custody or supervision status exactly as shown. Do not promise a field that the current result does not display.
- Check Oklahoma VINE for a custody-status change, while allowing for transfer between contributing institutions.
- If parole applies, match the ODOC number in the monthly PPB docket and then in the corresponding result.
- Look for a detainer or transfer clue before calling the departure community release.
- Request the named ODOC instrument that proves completed movement, release, or discharge.
Important: A Great Plains departure can be transfer, supervised release, discharge, or another handoff. Confirm the destination and status.
The broader Caddo County released-inmate lookup separates local jail, state prison, federal, and notification paths. The Caddo sheriff roster should not be used for a Great Plains prisoner. Likewise, a historical federal listing should not replace the present ODOC search.
Great Plains ODOC Search Fields
ODOC warns that public data is abbreviated and may not give a full account of offenses, sentence terms, or exact time to be served. The current individual result could not be independently verified through its CAPTCHA, so no fixed released label, photo-retention rule, or projected-date field should be promised. Official policy shows that underlying release documents exist, but not that every internal field appears online.

Great Plains Records and Contact
The facility can route present operational questions. Release and discharge documents belong to ODOC's state records system. A focused request should identify the person by name, aliases, DOC number, date of birth, Caddo case or conviction county, and an approximate custody period. Name the exact record rather than asking for an undefined file.

The ODOC Legal Services and Open Records channel handles public requests. OP-060212 identifies the Certificate of Release, Discharge Notice, Release Checkout Sheet, Final Disposition Report, Termination Summary, Parole Status Report, Notice of Inmate Status Change, jail-time statements, warrants, detainers, credit records, and photographs. Copies are stated at $0.25 per page, subject to confidentiality, redaction, authorization, and court-order rules.
Closed Records maintains inactive offender records indefinitely under that policy. ODOC publishes Closed Records at 405-425-2691 and the general line at 405-425-2500. A requested document may be restricted in whole or part. Ask for the specific release or discharge instrument and a cost estimate. Note: The prison phone is not a substitute for ODOC's formal records channel.
Great Plains Parole Release Evidence
The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board supplies parole context. Its monthly docket may list name, ODOC number, proceeding, offense and county, authority basis, jail time, reception date, projected release date, sentence structure, and detainer. Match by ODOC number. A shared name is not enough.
The Board's dockets and results archive separates planned consideration from the vote. The Board may grant qualifying nonviolent parole, recommend qualifying violent parole to the Governor, pass the case, or deny it. Three votes form a majority, but results are not final until the final meeting day ends and the outcome is validated and posted.
A PPB projected release date is an estimate used in parole review. ODOC's public information warns that precise future release information can be confidential and that any future date is tentative because earned credits, misconduct, class level, and achievement credits can change it. A parole result can also precede an approved residence, other prerequisites, final paperwork, or a detainer.
For completed proof, obtain an ODOC release or discharge record. Oklahoma VINE may supply a timely custody-change alert, but the supplying institution's change does not always distinguish community release from transfer. The final document should state the action taken.
Great Plains Is Now ODOC
Great Plains has a history that can misroute a current search. The prison opened in 1991 and expanded to a reported capacity of 2,040 by 2008. It once housed federal and out-of-state prisoners under private operation. After the federal contract ended, the facility depopulated in 2017. Those facts still appear in old directories.
ODOC assumed operation in May 2023. Current official material describes the prison as owned by GEO and leased and operated by ODOC. The ODOC opening announcement confirms the state role. The agency also published its takeover agreement.
For a current Great Plains release, do not start with the Bureau of Prisons locator merely because an old source calls the site federal or private. Use ODOC, PPB when parole is involved, and Oklahoma VINE. A BOP search is relevant only to a person whose separate federal history is supported by current facts.
Great Plains Discharge Record Proof
The strongest record depends on the event. A Release Checkout Sheet can document departure processing. A Certificate of Release or Parole Status Report can address supervised release. A Discharge Notice or Termination Summary can show that the identified term ended. A Notice of Inmate Status Change may explain movement that does not amount to community release.
Use Board records for Board action, ODOC records for offender movement and discharge, and the convicting court for the judgment and sentence. These documents can be read together when one is incomplete. A PPB result does not replace the ODOC instrument, and a court sentence does not prove the actual exit date.
If a detainer appears, identify the receiving authority. Another county, federal agency, or other custodian may continue confinement after Great Plains removes the person from its count. Describe that outcome as a transfer or handoff unless the receiving record proves release. Careful wording protects the central distinction between leaving one prison and leaving custody.
Keep copies of the ODOC number, relevant docket page, result, and final movement record. Dates should be read in sequence. The prison departure date, parole start, and final discharge may be different events, and each can answer a separate custody question. When a public search result is unclear, a narrow ODOC request is safer than treating an estimated date or stale directory as final proof.
